U.S. Communities Saves Counties Money in the War on Opioid Overdoses

Governor Rick Scott recently directed the Florida Surgeon General to issue a standing order for Naloxone to ensure that first responders across the state have immediate access to treat opioid overdoses. County governments can purchase Naloxone and a nasal spray version called NARCAN at discounts up to 40% through the U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance. NARCAN is the only FDA-approved, needle-free version of the overdose antidote.

Registration is Open for June Ethics Workshop

During the 2013 Legislative Session, the Florida legislature passed new ethics legislation requiring that Commissioners and other Constitutional Officers take four hours of Ethics programming each calendar year.  This workshop is open to Commissioners, County Staff and all other Constitutional Officers.  Participants who complete this workshop in its entirety will receive 6 Core Credits toward the CCC Certification as well as fulfill their 2017 Ethics requirement for the Legislature. County Staff will earn 6 hours of Core Credit for the County Government Education Program and Torchbearers will receive 25 points.

County Government Education Program now available for county staff

Many of our members have asked for a program for county staff to attend to get their County Government Education.  The wait is now over!  The first three classes were held in conjunction with Legislative Day last week in Leon County.  If you were unable to join us for these three events last week, don’t worry.  We will be offering Ethics in June and November as well as again in March and June of next year, and Growth Management and Financial Management will both be offered again next March, so you have plenty of time to get those core credits and still be a part of the first class to be recognized in June of 2018 as successfully completing the County Government Education Program.
