Located on the beautiful southeast coast of Florida, Palm Beach County (est. pop. 1.3 million) is one of the largest of Florida's 67 counties by area and the third largest by population. There are 38 municipalities within the County, the largest of which is the City of West Palm Beach, the county seat. A full-service agency, Palm Beach County has approximately 6,100 staff and 25 Departments including the Facilities Development & Operations Department (FD&O). FD&O's responsibilities include siting and land acquisition; designing, constructing, and managing facilities; and providing audio/visual, public safety radio and security services to more than 800 County facilities and a fleet of 3,000 vehicles and equipment.
The County is seeking candidates for the Director of Capital Improvements position which is responsible for directing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of FD&O’s Capital Improvements Division (CID). CID has 24 staff and a CIP budget in excess of $100 million annually, consisting of hundreds of new construction, renewal/replacement and building renovation projects of all sizes and complexities. The Director of Capital Improvements is responsible for managing the design and construction of County facilities within Palm Beach County.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar field. Additionally, candidates must have at least eight (8) years of progressively responsible project management experience involving public works projects and facilities, including at least three (3) years of direct supervision of professional, technical and support staff in all areas of project management, from design to construction. Registration as a Professional Architect or Engineer in the State of Florida is required within eleven (11) months of appointment. The Finalist will be subject to a detailed Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background check. Salary is open, dependent upon qualifications.
