COUNTY ENGINEER/PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

Palm Beach County, Florida (1,397,710), located on the southeast coast and made up of 2,385 square miles, is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of County Engineer/Public Works Director.                                                                                              

The County operates as a Home Rule Charter County and is governed by the Board of County Commissioners. The Commission appoints the County Administrator who runs the day-to-day operations of the County. For Fiscal Year 2017, the County has an annual budget of nearly $4 billion and 6,274 positions.

The County Engineer serves as a manager and is responsible for overseeing overall planning and administration of capital projects relations to road building as well as overseeing activities of the Engineering and Public Works Department. The Department has 434 positions, an annual operating budget of $55 million and provides services to County residents in the following major areas: Road and Bridge, Traffic, Roadway Production, Construction Coordination, Land Development, and Streetscapes.

Minimum qualifications for the position include a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related field; at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in engineering and public works; and registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification in the state of Florida, or the ability to obtain Florida registration within one year. The ideal candidate will also possess at least five years of management responsibility in engineering and public works and have extensive knowledge of modern techniques, methods and procedures of all phases of engineering and public works. The salary for the position is negotiable dependent upon candidate education and experience.
