Lake County is looking for an experienced, dynamic and effective leader with demonstrated proficiency in overseeing a mid-to-large-sized government entity within the state of Florida.

The ideal candidate must be capable of energizing the workforce to carry out the mission, goals, and objectives of the Board of County Commissioners, while creating a work culture conducive to the sharing of ideas, rewarding for innovation and thoughtful risk-taking. The applicant must possess a positive, forward-thinking vision for the organization, while also being an inspirational servant-leader.

Lake County’s manager must have extensive knowledge of public administration and management, and county government operations, including budget development and statutory requirements impacting local governments. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of balancing the service delivery needs of the community in a fiscally responsible manner.

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, and be someone who is committed to actively being engaged in the community; fostering an open dialog with both residents and business leaders.

The Position

The County Manager is responsible for leading an organization of approximately 750 employees, and an annual budget of over $362 million. The position is responsible for overseeing all programs and activities under the direction of the Board of County Commissioners. The County Manager executes appropriate policies and procedures concerning matters applicable to the Board of County Commissioners, and coordinates and conducts long-range management and financial planning analysis.

Lake County is a non-charter County with five elected County Commissioners. The County Manager is an appointed position, serving at the pleasure of the Board of County Commissioners.

The Community

Lake County represents “the other half” of the Orlando area, with beautiful natural resources (over 1,000 freshwater lakes and rivers and some of Florida’s only rolling hills), historic downtowns and award-winning sports facilities; all within a short driving distance of downtown Orlando, the Central Florida theme parks, coastal beaches and the Orlando International Airport. For all of these reasons, Lake County’s adopted slogan, “Real Florida. Real Close.” is a well-suited description of the county and its unique amenities.

The area is the sixth fastest growing county in the state, with a population of roughly 330,000. County government is working hand-in-hand with businesses, civic groups, organizations and its 14 municipalities to make positive changes in the quality of life for the citizens of Lake County. The County’s priorities include public safety, a strong economic development program, and fostering a business-friendly environment. Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, or a related field and seven years of related progressively responsible experience in Florida including at least three years of experience at the level of Department Director or above at a similarly sized operation. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for two years of the seven years of required experience. Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered. The County Manager need not be a resident of Lake County at the time of appointment, but during his/her tenure in office shall reside in Lake County. The starting salary is negotiable. The prior County Manager’s ending salary was $160,617.
