Director of Planning and Zoning
Bryan County, Georgia is seeking a highly qualified Director of Planning and Zoning with strong leadership skills. The County is located in the beautiful coastal area of southeast Georgia and is one of the fastest growing counties in the region with a population of approximately 40,000 and a median family income over $72,000. It is intersected by a major military installation, Fort Stewart, separating the County into a northern and southern region. Bryan County boasts great transportation opportunities with access to I-95 and I-16. Fresh water rivers, marinas, exceptional recreation facilities well as fishing and hunting areas are available to County residents. Being near Savannah provides additional cultural activities, entertainment, historical explorations, and beach enjoyment for families.
The Director serves as member of the County Administrator’s management team and implements the policies and directives approved by the County Commission related to planning and zoning. To be successful in this position the new Director must provide leadership that values public input while making well-reasoned recommendations to the Commission having considered all known impacts and potential unintended consequences of decisions before the Board. The Director is expected to professionally evaluate the needs of the current Planning Department and recommend changes that will serve the needs of this fast-growing community.
Minimum qualifications of the new Director of Planning and Zoning include a bachelor’s degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Public or Business Administration or related field; Master’s degree preferred. Five years of local government planning and zoning experience required. ACIP certification preferred.
The starting salary for the new Director will be based upon the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate; starting salary is expected to be in the range of $85,000- $95,000. The County offers a comprehensive benefit package which includes medical insurance, retirement, and negotiable relocation expenses.
