Legislative Day

The FAC 2012 Legislative Day was held Wednesday, February 1, at the FSU Turnbull Conference Center in Leon County with more than 200 commissioners and staff coming to Tallahassee to lobby in support of home rule and against unfunded mandates.

The day started with a legislative briefing which included updates from Senate President Mike Haridopolos.  The President spoke about frustrations of Washington passing down mandates to Florida and reaffirming his commitment to limit unfunded mandates to counties.  The President was also on hand to answer questions from the crowd on a variety of legislation being debated this year.  In addition, members heard from Workforce Florida Executive Director Chris Hart regarding the recent workforce legislation and our ability to work together to find a compromise that balanced the Governor’s need for more accountability with FAC’s demand to honor home rule.

Following the morning briefing members met with legislators and rejoined FAC in the evening for a reception. Governor Scott attended the reception for the 2nd year in a row.  He emphasized his commitment to home rule as well as speaking on the recent compromise  on the changes to workforce boards.

FAC would like to thank all of our Corporate Partners and Legislative Day Sponsors that made the day possible.  We look forward to seeing you next year!
