 2/10/10  Memo: FAC Files Suit re: Impact Fees
Today, the Florida Association of Counties, the Florida League of Cities, the Florida School Boards Association, and nine counties (Alachua, Collier, Lake, Lee, Levy, Nassau, Pasco, Sarasota, and St. Lucie) filed suit challenging HB 227 (2009) relating to impact fees, arguing that the bill is an unconstitutional unfunded mandate and that it violates the separation of powers provision of the state constitution.

Court rules against DJJ proving claim of counties
-DJJ’s unfair billing practices returns $1.5 million to 20 counties-
 TALLAHASSEE: This month an Administrative Law Judge ruled against the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, validating what counties have been saying for years, DJJ erroneously shifts costs to counties.  Each year counties are billed in advance for the costs of housing juveniles.  At the end of each year DJJ is asked to submit to local governments the actual cost of housing those juveniles.
