Election Communications for counties change under new Division of Elections Opinion on Electioneerin
FAC asked the law firm of Myers, Brooks, Demma, and Blohm to explain the interpretation of Florida statutes 106.113 relating to electioneering communication. The memo takes into account the recent changes in the definition of “electioneering communication” and declares that the law no longer prohibits the expenditure of public funds for “electioneering communication”. However, the law does still prohibit the expenditure or acceptance of public funds for “political advertisements”. Governor Attends FAC Annual Conference to discuss oil spill
Governor Crist joined FAC during the FAC Annual Business meeting to discuss the problems in the local claims process for the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. FAC hosted an oil discussion on Thursday with Governor Charlie Crist, Ray Dempsey, Vice President for BP, CFO Alex Sink, and FDEP Secretary Michael Sole. The meeting provided an opportunity for local governments to express to the state and BP the frustrations occurring with the claims process.

Bryan Desloge elected FAC 2nd Vice President
FAC Elects New Board Members
At the FAC Annual Business meeting held last week in Hillsborough County, FAC members Leon County Commissioner Bryan Desloge was elected as FAC 2nd Vice President and FAC members elected four new members to its Board of Directors in addition to re-electing 15 commissioners to serve an additional two years. Congratulations to Commissioners Pate (Washington), Boyd (Orange), Keechl (Broward) and Seijas (Miami-Dade).

FAC President Ilene Lieberman Announces Leadership Team
FAC President, Commissioner Ilene Lieberman, announced her leadership team for the upcoming year. In appointing policy chairs and vice chairs, Commissioner Lieberman reached out to a diverse group of commissioners from around the state to assist in advancing FAC's agenda. In addition, she created three task forces which include an Advocacy Task Force composed of commissioners who formerly served as state legislators, a Sustainability Task Force and a Deepwater Horizon Task Force.
