President Elect Ilene Lieberman presents to House Finance and Tax Council
Friday, March 05, 2010
FAC’s President Elect Ilene Lieberman testified in front of House Finance and Tax Council on the tourism tax issue facing counties. The committee allowed two hours of testimony to allow both sides to answer questions and present. Rep. Bogdanoff is the chair of this council and feels strongly that legislation is needed but has not yet publicly supported either Patronis’ or Long’s bill.
Rep. Patronis has filed a bill ensuring that travel intermediaries would not have to pay on the retail amount of these issues. Rep. Long’s bill, which FAC supports, would clarify the existing statue that travel intermediaries would have to pay tax on the entire amount of the hotel stay rather than the reduced amount.
