The 2015 legislative session ended abruptly when the House unexpectedly adjourned sine die three days early leaving the Senate alone to debate and pass bills that would ultimately die on the calendar. The epic collapse of the 2015 session was triggered by a standoff between the chambers over the Senate’s proposal to expand Medicaid. Because the Legislature has a constitutional obligation to pass a balanced budget, a Special Session was convened on June 1-20, 2015. In addition to the budget, Medicaid expansion, tax cuts and Amendment 1 implementation were all issues that were considered during the Special Session. For this workshop, the FAC Legislative Team will provide an overview of session outcomes and a look forward to the 2016 session which starts in January next year.
