Although campaigns can be grueling, once the election is over, the real work begins! The Florida Association of Counties is here to welcome and answer the new Commissioners’ questions with a New Commissioners Orientation Luncheon on Wednesday, November 19 from 12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Marriott Tampa Waterside in Hillsborough County.
This program is designed to provide an overview of the responsibilities of a county commissioner. Participants will learn about the valuable services available through FAC and ways for a new commissioner to immediately get involved in the Association. This event is also an excellent opportunity to meet Commissioners from throughout the state. The focus of the luncheon will be to provide the information they need to know on their first days in office:
- Constitutional requirements of the office
- Traditional and expanding county responsibilities
- Powers and duties of county commissioners
- Ethics and Sunshine Laws
- Certified County Commissioners’ Education Program
By attending these events, new Commissioners will also be enrolled in FAC’s Certified County Commissioner (CCC) Program and on their way to completing CCC certification. These combined events, Legislative Conference (2 hours) and the New Commissioner Orientation (1.5 hours), will provide a total of 3.5 hours of the Continuing Education Credits required to become a Certified County Commissioner.
More information will be sent to new commissioners and county administrators on November 5th about this event. To register a newly elected commissioner for Legislative Conference or the New Commissioner Orientation luncheon, please contact Becky Berentsen at (850) 414-7936.
