Last week in the Senate Appropriations Committee for Criminal and Civil Justice, the Department of Juvenile Justice and FAC were scheduled to provide an update on the status of the detention cost-share issue.  Although the committee meeting was scheduled for two hours, discussion over juvenile residential facility contracts took up almost all the time, leaving only three minutes for detention cost-share.  Those three minutes did however prove to be fruitful, as the Department indicated that a more equitable funding model is needed.  As one of FAC’s top priorities this session, staff will continue to work with the Department and the Legislature on an agreeable solution to the juvenile detention issue.
